    Fireworks and pets

    Fireworks over the last few nights have been pretty manic however I count myself lucky as I have a rhodesian ridgeback who is not remotely bothered by them!

    How is everyone elses pets holding up with the big sha...bang being tomorrow

    My two will sleep through anything, fortunately. There has been so much rain here today that I doubt anyone will be doing anything tonight and the Village Firework display is planned for tomorrow anyway.

      What about wildlife too?

        We are having a firework/bonfire party here tomorrow evening.( non bangs bought! )

        The French obviously don't 'do' bonfire night..but we contacted our local farmer who has pregnant cows in the field behind ours- and he's going to move them in the morning....he's vvv pleased we actually bothered to contact him! ( and they are about due to be rotated onto another field anyway)

        we have no local pets/livestock here apart from our own ...and his cows!...radio set up for our cat ....and music/covers for the chooks and bunnies



        good luck to all those who have pets who are pertrified of fireworks ( espesh our daughter in the Lakes)

            The firebangs have been going off for two nights now. The dog, nor the parrots, are remotely bothered. I don't know if it makes a difference, but I never make a fuss of the dog if she's frightened, I always remain calm and quiet (eg, if a big dog is a bit rough with her, I won't pick her up unless she's actually in danger).

              This year my cat is proving herself to be pretty bomb proof. She has been sitting on the bathroom windowledge (outside) watching the show.
              Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

                Eldest cat is a bit unbalanced so I wouldn't know if she was bothered frankly - doesn't seem to be. The boy cats don't seem too fussed either. They don't go out at night when its chilly though cos they don't like wet/cold paws, the wussies!

                Dog used to bark at fireworks when she was young, through excitement rather than fear I think , but now just snores her way through whatever noises are going off with maybe an occasional grumble if one is especially loud.

                  The foxes running up and down my road don't seem to be bothered in the slightest.
                  It makes me wonder if pet-owners are mollycoddling their little darlings.

                      dog and cats absolutely fine - me on the other hand kept jumping out of my skin!!!! I hate fireworks, bit of a wuss!

                        I don't think it would hurt folk to put a slip of paper through the neighbours' doors, notifying of firework parties. But no one round here seems to give a chuff about anyone except themselves. What annoys me are the idiot children running up and down the main street with bangers. Is it any wonder people get hurt...?

                        When outside, our Dawg barks and belts around the garden like a loon, and doesn't seem scared, but when he's inside and can't see, he's rather upset by the bangs, and tries to get on my lap. Like TS, I just remain calm, and don't fuss him too much.

                            One of my cats has been sat on the windowsill (inside - the little prima donna prefers to be cozy) watching the numerous shows, the other hates loud noises (has done from being a kitten) and has alternated between hiding and demanding cuddles.
