  • Applied for a job in ...............

    Kuwait!

I was on the computer this afternoon when and email came through saying a recruitment agency for overseas teachers had found my cv on an education website, and would I be interested in working abroad. I was idly commenting on it to OH when the phone rang.
It was the agency, asking if I would be interested in a post in an international school in Kuwait. They need someone who can start asap as they are part way through the school year, and they teach the British curriculum (not sure what that is anymore as there are so many changes in the pipeline here ).
Anyway, after reading the info he sent through I told him to submit my application. I did ask if they have an upper age limit (he said there can be more difficulty getting visas if you are 58-60, so I'm still young ). I don't suppose I'll get an interview, but it's nice to be approached.
OH is willing to come too, and son no 2 said he'd look after all the animals, the house and the allotment, so sorted

I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!

Cripes! That is really exciting. Fingers crossed for an interview

Whatever the outcome, well done on being approached and having the courage to go for it.

It seems like a long term option, they talk about paying a bonus per year you work there, with it going up after 5 years. It is paid as a lump sum at the end of employment. If by chance I did get it I think I'd be looking for 5 years if I liked it.
The perks like free accomodation, bills paid and travel provided to and fro from the school means we could come back with some money put aside, and still pay for our house here in the meantime. We don't exactly have a lavish lifestyle, and one trip back is paid for each year too.
I read through the student handbook, much sounds like I'm used to, but the sanctions for breaking the rules are stricter. An earlier start to the day 7.20am for students, but the day ends at 2pm.
It makes a difference now we have no child dependants and someone who could take over here, although son no 2 did say that would mean he had to cook for himself EVERY night.

It sounds like a great opportunity but be very mindful of the politics of the region.

Was talking to a lady who did just the same! She's split from her OH and just went for it! Made it sound like paradise, she had maids and everything - said it was normal and kept the local economy going. Obvs there are lots of different ways of life and rules and dos and don'ts, but common sense usually covers most of these. I've got family living in Abu Dhabi and Dubai and they love it! OOH when I look out the window at this miserable weather and dream of constant sunshine...
You may say I'm a dreamer... But I'm not the only one...

DD wasn't very pleased when I told her I'd applied, so I reassured her I'd probably not even get an interview (but I so hope I do). Even if I'm in Kuwait I can still (hopefully) get on here. I'd need to, with no garden I'll have to keep sane somehow.
Seeds, now that's a plan, maybe I'll have windowsills

She'll get over it, BS! And, as they say, if you don't like it, you can always come back home. I really hope you get it - what a fantastic adventure, and a paid one, at that!
