Your pepper production came on late most likely due to the unusual weather this year. If you fertilised too long, it may have encouraged growth of the greenery in lieu of pepper production. If you were late in germinating your pepper seeds, that also would be a possibility.

They are indeedy!

The others in the greenhouse didn't do so well either & they got fed with tom feed every week.

I sowed the seeds in the greenhouse back in March & they germinated quite well.

My chilli peppers (Cayenne) done extremely well. I have so many chopped up in the freezer. Shame it's not the other way around as I use sweet peppers more.

i grew them also and my first peppers were not to bad of a size i have 2 now that aare about half the size of the first lot so im guessing that if you have them later in the season that they dont produce as big as earlier

I've had much the same experience the last couple of years with both california wonders and cayennes - i.e. chilli peppers going great guns and the sweet peppers struggling to produce anything edible and of any size. Both sown indoors in Feb, hardenend off gradually and moved out to the blowaway in June once its warmed up.

I don't know if its lack of sun or perhaps too cold at night, but I'm not going to bother with the sweet peppers again.

My long pointy sweet peppers from in the gh have been fantastic but the block peppers (ie cal. wonder) have been a total waste of time . Think I had the same probs last year as well...Just going to grow the long red ones now.......

I couldn't find long red pointy peppers this year, they'd sold out! My Californian Wonders did grow eventually, but most are tiny and none has gone red!! So you're one better than me on that score choccy

PMW, I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who has struggled with sweet peppers (especially CW) but i love them so I think I will go with a different kind next year. Binley I may go for the long red ones (thanks Colin for the name).

Kathyd I think I told a few dirty jokes around them & made some blush ;o)

Trying to get excited about what I'm planning but need a big clear up first (& still throwing tomato plants away and chopping chillis to freeze)!

Some of mine have been grown from Lidls peppers ..........just can't bear to bin the seeds ........
