  • Main crop spuds

I have just harvested the first container of Picasso and am really quite pleased.

At last something that all that rain was good for.

Is that a Dustbin sized container, Potty? They look scrumptious

They look lovely. Picasso are meant to be now and floury aren't they? might try some next year

70ltr dustbin VC. This is the first one so if things run true to form the next one's should be even better.

Sowit I can recommend Picasso, have been growing them for some years now, never had a bad crop and they taste good to.

Thanks Pots I'm starting to think of having a Potty garden - despite having oodles of ground! This year, everything that has been in the ground has been massacred or drowned while the plants that I put into pots as a last resort are thriving. There is a moral there somewhere - all I need to do is find lots of containers, fill them with soil and cover the ground with them! Shouldn't take long

I think both methods have there pros and cons. This way suits me because I am basically idle but you do have to plan ahead otherewise you end up with empty containers.

                Another vote for Picasso.

I get home from work - "What shall I have for tea? A baked spud would be nice."

So I wander out into the garden, stick my hand in the ground for a fist-sized spud, then straight to the oven. Lovely.

Picasso for me again next year. Although lifted early due to blight they gave the best yield of any variety this year. I grow mine in 17l polypots.

I put in Picasso this year, they were going great guns until the plants disappeared when the weather bacame constant rain. We thought the whole lot were gonners and went to dig over the bed for garlic this autumn.
Lo and behold we got about 10 kg of good potatoes! Nice flavour and stay together when cooked = happy!

                              They look really good!

I'll have to look out for Picasso next year and grow them alongside the Charlotte spuds that I'll definitely be growing again.
