  • What wouldn't you be without?

whether you grow fruit, veg or flowers what could you not live without in the garden or allotment

i grow veg in containers every year (allotment was allocated to me a month ago)
so mine would have to be plant feed

i think it will change to a hoe once i grow on a larger scale at the allotment

fresh air, it's a problem breathing without it

On my sandy soil it would have to be a hosepipe. It didn't stop raining until a couple of weeks ago but the soil here is like dust again when I dug the potatoes up

My special gardening spoon, to others it looks like an ordinary desert spoon but its perfect for filling paper pots and loo rolls.

The wheel barrow. Good for lugging weeds and dirt, transporting various oddments and tools and for standing in to reach the best of the blackberries. Also the cat has a perfectly good bed but prefers to sleep under it too.

                          the missus ....

she loves the home growing .... she works quite long hours so i do a lot of the growing and things myself .... but she really appreciates the home grown food, she loves the whole thing, and that motivates me to do a lot more in the veggie patch ....

she also loves cooking, making jams and pickles, making salads etc .... i was single for 11 years, salads were plain and boring, she makes them all different .... i grew veggies that i threw away because i would never eat them .... she makes chutneys and pickles out of them .... motivates me to grow even more .... our first marrow will be ready soon .... something i haven't eaten since i was force-fed it as a child .... and i know she's going to make it taste really good!

and she loves the foraging .... i could never be bothered going out picking stuff just for me ....

and she loves the winemaking .... i have to make most of it myself, but she loves it .... and that encourages her to go out foraging with me .... which means we're both getting more exercise too ....

I couldn't live without my beautiful dutch hoe and, of course, our stove for brewing up in the shed.
