    Do saved seeds carry disease from parent plant?

    Mainly asking about tomato and potato seeds but can be generally applied to all seeds.
    Say a plant gets something as serious as say, Blight, is it safe to save the seeds or is there a possibility those will carry the Blight disease.

    Is there any disease that is more likely to be carried to a seed? Any disease on any plant.

    I wouldn't risk it, usually best to save seeds from the best plants/ fruits.

      Blight is a fungal problem which the plant acquired along the way and shouldn't be carried over in the seed.

      Kathycam is right though, if you want to propagate blight tolerant plants only use the ones that are least affected for seed.

          If i make it back to the plot before they get wrecked (my back's gone) I'm planning to save some of my blight affected spuds this year, as although they got blight, they got about two patches, when all my neighbours' spuds were utterly obliterated. If the seed potato lasts until planting next year in the fridge, it most likely isn't harbouring blight.

            Though I certainly agree with the general principle of what Snadger is saying, in a year like this I wouldn't say a plant that got a fungal disease should be discarded out of hand as blight prone. If you want to save seeds other than tomato and potato with blight, which apparently should be ok, then 10 minutes in 10 times diluted bleach will sterilise the seeds.
