  • Ladies Would You Wear.....

Ladies, would you wear black to a wedding? I'm going to a wedding in a couple of weeks and need to decide if I can wear a black dress to the ceremony (in a Registry Office) and to the celebration after (in a Miners Club). The dress in question is a maxi-dress, best description is Grecian style (photo is no help, just shows a black dress). I'd wear probably red jacket or maybe raspberry coloured jacket. So, yes or no?

I think you can these days - unless the wedding party is full of people who are not so modern in their outlook! I would make sure you carry the colour through to a hair ornament and bag as well as the jacket though.
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

I don't wear black to funerals but I would wear black, with bright accessories to a wedding. It all depends on whose wedding and what part you play in it.

A relative wore a black and white suit and a black hat to my son's wedding. It looked quite smart but I think a black dress with accessories would look even smarter. And fine for the evening do too.

I wore a LBD to a friend's wedding a few years ago with long boots (it was a winter wedding), it never occurred to me that anybody would think I shouldn't wear black. So long as you feel comfortable I don't see why there is any problem. If it's a maxi dress then I'd have thought that white / cream at a wedding would have been a problem but black (especially with the accessories you mention) would look great.

Yes I would. As long as the accessories are a bright cheery colour I can't see any problem.

From a bloke's perspective, when unsure of the correct attire either :

                  Ask the host/hostess

                  or

Ask yourself ........... would I be happy if a guest wore this to my function

Re asking the host, to be honest when I got married I had enough things to worry about without getting involved in guest's clothing dilemmas. Didn't really are what people wore, just wanted them to be there to help celebrate our day. If a bride is that het up with what people look like on her wedding day then perhaps she's missing the point of getting married.....

I wouldn't, but then I haven't worn black for a while. If you have bright accessories and you feel comfortable, you'll look good. Enjoy, whatever you decide.

I very rarely wear anything but black, so my answer is yes

I think it sounds lovely with the raspberry jacket. I'm a jeans n tshirt girl myself and don't know much about fashion mind you.

Depends, if a person were going for the ringwraith look or not i guess!

I wear a lot of black, it can look very elegant and classy, (not that i look either, i am sure)personally i would accessorise and the raspberry jacket sounds like it would really lift the outfit. In which case i would say 'go for it'.

I wore a black shift dress to my cousin's wedding a few years ago; with deep pink accessories - hair thing, bows on shoes and other bits. When we got married, I truly wouldn't have cared if someone had turned up in their lottie gear. It was a full-on, formal 'do', but no dress code at all. I'd be a tad surprised if a bride got into a tiz over someone wearing black to be honest, but if the one in question is a bit highly-strung and given to mad tantrums over small things, then maybe think twice.
