my cauliflower is about 4-5 inches across and has got a purple tinge on it . any ideas what it could be.

Have you got it covered with its own leaves against the sun? One of mine went purpley and then brown because I didn't tie its leaves over the curds.......If the river hasn't reached the top of your step, DON'T PANIC!Comment

the variety on the packet says cauliflower all year round and make is country value

It seems to me that it is just being a cauliflower, most cauli's were originally coloured in some way or other. Make sure no light can get to the curd and a foliar feed may help.
