  • If you won the lottery, would you go public?

Would it make a difference on the amount won?

For me, whatever amount won I wouldn't go public.. I'd fear for my family's safety for one, but I'd hate to be in the limelight - imagine walking down the road and being recognised.. no thanks! Not that I'm tight (well, I am.. in fact I've been described as being tighter than a DA before - which always makes me laugh ), I just wouldn't want the hassle of it all.

Definitely not. Just imagine how many "friends" from years ago would pop out of the woodwork in spite of not being there for you when you needed them.

No. And I think those that do have been ill advised.

When I will the zillions tomorrow I won't be telling anyone.

Why? How much have you won?

Think of the begging letters, the neighbourly resentment, the carp dug up by the red tops and published.......don't ever go public - limit the greed. Now that sounds mean, but you can give to as many worthy causes and charities as you like privately/anonymously without Joe Public hounding you.

I wouldn't ever tell anyone how much I'd won, or when I won. I wouldn't even tell my children for fear of their safety from nutters and gold diggers.

It would be one helluva job keeping it quiet, but I'd do whatever I had to in order to be private.

What, do you suppose, the people who have gone public get as a reward for doing so? What incentive are they offered?

Indeed, I always wonder what Camelot offer them for going public!

The people who go public have their moment in the limelight, to see their photo in the press - maybe they want to be "famous" for one small moment of their lives. Definitely not for me!!
I don't actually know what I would do with a million pounds (no begging letters please). It would be such a problem deciding who, or what charity, to give it to that it would disturb my sleep!

oh boy .... i'm sure loads of my exes would sell their stories to the red-tops .... but when i have £105 million on saturday morning, i don't think i'll worry too much about it ....

I definitely definitely wouldn't go public. I would move, and those that found out and appeared out of the woodwork would get short shrift. I would also help out loads of needy people, but quietly, behind the scenes.

Personally, I disagree that having too much money is as worrying as not having enough. If you don't want it, give it away. What's so difficult? I think the best way to look at it is; If the 'beggar' would help you out if they had won, that's fine. If you know for certain that they wouldn't, then that makes the decision very easy!

I have never understood why anyone wants to be in the paper when they win? Beyond close family, I would go as far as pretending a distance relative left me the money- if you win money on the lottery people seem to assume that they ought to have a share too- whereas if its 'left' to you they wouldn't dare!

i have a handful of close friends that i would help out financially .... in a big way .... me and a neighbour have a deal that i'd buy her a pink 4x4, can't remember what she was gonna buy me, not that it matters much ...

i'd do a lot of good for a lot of people (via community) .... but it would take a lot of thought and careful planning ....

but i'd prefer to make my millions through business .... at least i'd feel that i'd earnt the money .... i'm working on it ....

I wouldn't deliberately go public but my new Ferrari and Yacht in the driveway of my hastily bought French Château might be a bit of a giveaway

There are plenty of shows where people are prepared to humiliate themselves just to be on TV. Have you ever seen the Jeremy Kyle Show?
