    Woohoo - my first courgette flowers!

    yep, my first courgette flowers are just opening now ... and courgettes just starting to form behind them ... some flowers too on butternut squash, pumpkin and marrow ....

    i'm finding it hard to believe we're 3/4 of the way through july and everything is soooooo late ....

    Great stuff its exciting when they burst into flower isn't it? I ate my first courgette on Saturday - sprinkled with garlic oil, lemon and sea salt then griddled - delicious!!!!

      Once they start they won't stop...left these two for a day and whoosh..

        Well after looking quite promising with a load of male flowers, my courgettes now seem to have given up and died. I think the eventual arrival of summer after all this time was just too much of a shock for them.

            Well done on getting flowers!! I remember the delight of getting some on mine earlier this year, but make sure you look after them, as courgettes seem to have been one of the main casualties of this year's weird 'summer' weather. I brought mine in to the greenhouse from the lashings of the wind and rain, and just about managed to rescue them. The odd thing is that they're all a healthy shade of yellow and I'm sure I planted green ones !
            Just go for it..

                I'm getting flowers and tiny courgettes on mine but then the slugs come along

                  I've had about 3 pickings now and the plants seem to have finally got into the swing of things. I agree that everything has been really slow this year. This time last year we were overwhelmed with beans and courgettes currently I feel decidedly underwhelmed.

                    Took another four off a Zephyr plant today so planting in the growbed has worked out. Lots of snug damage on the others, so just hoping they recover. Congratulations FG!

                        Oh, I'm glad that mine are being 'normal' with their slowness. I was getting a bit embarassed about the total lack of growth and the tiddly size of the little courgettes that I'm watching like a hawk. Feels like this time last year the numbers of veg they were producing was starting to stop being funny and I was giving them out to anyone who didn't move fast enough!
