  • Will anything deter moles....

I just want it to s*d off and stop leaving my plants dangling. My plot is three years old and had no worms when I started and by the end of last year we had a really healthy population. I've hardly seen any this year.

Given that my veg plot is the only bit of soil-with-worms for miles around, killing the beast will simply let the next one on the waiting list in, so are there actually any mole deterents that work?

I currently constantly dig out the runs where I can, have put the hosepipe down in a fit of anger, shoved bramble and roses prunings in the tunnels and even sprinkled in super hot chili powder.

We have 2 cats and three kittens who have at least dealt with the voles who used the mole runs to access my spuds last year and leeks the year before. And they do try for the mole if it happens to be upending earth right under their noses.

So now we've found the Bose-Higgson, perhaps money could be spent genetically modifying moles to eat slugs....

Hard work, but could you dig in an fence off some thick metal wire around your plot? A good few feet deep...

You might be the only plot for miles with worms but they have been living on something so I don't think you should worry too much about the ultimate deterrent.
