  • King Edward Potatoes Flowering

    Hi all,

I planted my king edward tubers on the 1st June however this morning noticed that the green stalks have flower buds which have not yet opened. Is it too early for them to be flowering? I thought they would need 20 weeks to mature. Not sure if it's down to the awful weather we've had but a bit confused.

Not much you can do about it, but isn't June a bit late to be planting potatoes? Flowering is a bit random with potatoes - some do and some don't. 20 weeks is about right for maincrop potatoes. Flowering doesn't really matter that much, it's whether they still have plenty of leaves to feed the tubers.
