  • Weird courgette stem

One of my Black beauty courgettes is growing with a weird split in its stem, do I just ignore it or should I cover the split stem over with compost.

Cover it over - it will root into the compost with a new stem root. I had a partially snapped one - applied a sticking plaster and sank the join into below ground level and it is doing fine now.
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

Thanks Jeanie I'll nip out now and cover the split with compost.

its covered and the extra compost should help stop the plant rocking in the wind.

The kids in the gardening club at school all thought I was nuts when I told them to put a plaster on it! Nothing I have done since has convinced them otherwise

Hope you said "There, there, there" when you put the plaster on Jeanie!

Of course, Flo! I didn't kiss it better though, 'cos courgette stems are a bit prickly...

Whilst I am impressed with your dressing Nurse...not entirely sure I would have buried the patient. I have always been given to understand that you never plant curcubits deeper than they originally were. Perhaps the application of a lollypop stick splint?
