  • Physilis fruit

One fell off in my hand today as it had turned yellow, but its a tiny fruit no bigger than half a cm. Is it still edible? Its slightly off its usual orange colour so maybe not 100% ripe. Just concerned its not at all poisonous at any stage like Toms are when unripe.

    Thanks

Rob, Tomatoes aren't poisonous when unripe, they're just not as sweet as a ripe tomato. You can cook green tomatoes but most people wouldn't want to eat them raw.
With the physalis, it sounds too small to be worth eating anyway! Was the outer case dry and papery? If so, that's when they fall from the plant and are ready to eat. You may find that it ripens naturally in a few days. Same as the tomato, when physalis are under ripe they taste sharper than when ripe - but don't eat them if they are still green - that's all!

Yeah I had better not eat it as its small and green and according to a website they're toxic when green.

Forgive me but when I read the title I thought it said 'syphilis fruit'
