softening marrow ends?

    softening marrow ends?

    I went out in my garden today and found that one of my marrows ( about 6 inches long) has a soft and slightly yellowing end to it. Does this mean its rotting .

    I have 2 growing at present and the other is OK. Does it indicate a deficiancy of anything or just bad weather causing rot?

    Can it be reversed?

    it might be bad weather, it might be it wasn't fertilised. It can't be reversed no.

      I assumed that oncve it formed a mini marrow it was fertilized? I better hand pollinate others. the second one I actually broke off a bit of the male pollen lump and rubbed it into the female and left it in there, is that good enough?

        The mini-marrow comes first and kind of gives up if not pollinated.

        The other thing I would suggest, particularly in current soggy conditions, is to remove the flower a couple of days after it closes up. It should just ease off with no force. I sometimes find that squash flowers get mould and pass this on to the fruit...

          It's rotting Rob. It may not have been fertilised, or it may be the horrible weather. Either way cut it off cleanly with a sharp knife and dispose of it.

            Done that now. Wondered is the fruit minus the yellow bit good to eat even though its small?

            The second baby marrows flower looks well rotted so I took it off. Hope it doesnt follow suit.

              Yep, you can eat it small. Any that I have that go down that route I eat.
