  • Too much garlic?

I've just done my garlic weigh in and I think we may start to smell very soon...

Last year weighed 1.7kg which lasted for just a couple of weeks short of this years being ready.

This year we have 5.5kg I know it is still slightly damp, but isn't likely to lose that much water. My notes - perhaps not to be trusted - imply the same quantity planted both years.

    Garlic curry recipe to follow....

I've just bought a new book "Garlic The Mighty Bulb" and the WHO advocate that eating one raw clove of garlic a day is a recommended dose. So I have started to do just that. As you cook garlic it impedes the allicin, which is the good stuff that you need to promote health. It's fascinating. You with 5.5kg should be well away. I am upping my garlic growing this year substantially.

One year I grew 180 and most of them survived.

My garlic this year is also pathetic, only the early purple ones managed to put some size before uncle rusty came for a visit, the Elephant garlic on the other hand all success and currently at around seven kg hanging to dry in the poly plus about 50 bulbils which I planted back the same day.

I think there might be some household ressistance to eating raw garlic...but I might try and smuggle one into the muesli in the morning:

I misread the original post and thought it said that last years harvest had lasted a couple of weeks rather than just short of two weeks - was wondering how anybody could eat that much but now it makes more sense. No idea how you can eat this years though, OH's not keen on it so I always have to sneak little bits in when I can

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
