  • potato damage

One of my potato plants has collapsed. Dead.

The stem's looking green and squishy and I suspect slugs & snails. I can't recall them ever going for the actual growing plant bit of a potato before. Anyone else had this? Or other ideas (I'm pretty sure its not blight).

it doe's sound strange, then so again is this season,i would dig it up and have a see whats under the ground, after all it won't grow anymore without it's leafes, and you may have some nice little spuds to eat,

Have a look for my Slugs BBC article thread.

I posted some photos of slugs eating my spuds.

It appears they love maris pipers and will happily eat them rather than anything else.

Snails ate all the leaves off mine, but the stems weren't squishy.

Some of the branches off the main stem of one of mine have been eaten, but the plant is thriving again after I squished about 10 snails I found living in the potato bag with the plant.

Thanks all -- damn the slugs! Although it also occurred to be later that it could have been sat on by a pigeon to get things going...
