  • New Potatoes

Have just dug up my new potatoes "Rocket" but they seem very large for new potatoes and also they have big splits in them and also white blisters all over, if you peel off the blister there is nothing underneath and the blisters disappear after a while, any idea what this could be. Hopefully I have included a photo. Thanks

Rocket only need about 12 weeks from planting to digging. The splits are due to erratic watering, were they planted in open ground or in tubs?

As the lady said^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ if you grew in containers its deffo a lack of water. They won't keep so use them as you harvest.

Some of my Elizabeth, grown in open ground have splits like that. Not sure how erratic watering as ground has never dried out! Tested good just the same.

Rarely disagree with RL but I think the splits might be slug damage to outside as they were swelling.

how big are these 'white blisters'?

That sounds more like it! I've no blisters. (Nor have the potatoes!!)

I had that on my Rocket the year before last, loads of raised white dots about the size of a pinhead, they vanished as I washed them si I thought no more of it.

and the little round hole above the split certainly looks like slugs
