  • Will Mice Eat Stored Garlic and Onions

I'm starting to harvest my garlic now and will pulling the onions in a weeks and have a storage question. I plan to hang then in the shed but am concerned about attracting mice; will mice eat stored garlic/onions or does the smell put them off?

    Thanks,

    Brian

If you are at all concerned you can make a small hole in a plastic disc (i.e frisbee) and thread the string through this before hanging your onions/garlic from the rafters but I've never had any nibblers on my bulbs !

    Cheers, Tony.

last 2 years my onions have been stored hanging on string, all winter, and been fine, even when it was that really bad winter, but you will need to keep an eye out for any rot setting in,as it can happen with stored onions, the nibblers and rats, like the new shoots in the spring,or any stored squash, lol,
