Has anyone grown coloured cauliflower i.e green, orange and purple. If so can anyone tell me if you can sow some in late summer for a spring crop. I read an article saying you could plant feb/mar for june/july crop, june for autumn crop and august for spring, but i have just read another article saying that coloured cauliflowers don't over winter well. Can anyone enlighten me? Thank you

The type I grew was for autumn harvesting but it would depend on the variety. They were a lovely shade of purple though.

Most of the coloured ones will not overwinter unless you are in a very mild area. However, Purple cape is hardy and is probably related to purple sprouting broccoli, but with a larger central head.Comment

I keep trying romanesco, but the only year i had them growing nicely we had that pre xmas big freeze and i lost the lot.

never had any luck with purple ones,spring sown as pkt advice,they grew leaves,and a midged purple eye,after 2 years on the trot,i put the ground to better use,sigpicAnother nutter ,wife,mother, nan and nanan,love my growing places,seed collection and sharing,also one of these

Romanesco is not hardy and needs to be eaten before the frosts.Comment
