I've not tried the gel but have been impressed with Slug Gone

Been using the stuff for a few years, I swear by it.
Organic and very effective, best of both worlds.

I'm very happy with the slug liquid "Slug Clear Liquid Concentrate" you dilute and water onto the ground. Birds and pets can't see it and it gets the keel slugs underground.

I may be wrong, but I thought that wasn't meant to be used on / around edibles?

... just to follow up, in the end I went for a beer trap called the Kakoi "Slug Inn". They are compact and have a special design which makes it easier to strain out any slugs caught, preserving the beer for using again. Although I dont have that many slugs they appear to work really well and have been catching slugs.

I have put a ring of vermiculite around the really tender plants just as an extra deterrant.
