  • Hazel bean sticks advice needed!

Having found that all my bamboo bean sticks are too brittle to use for my beans, I've cut hazel from the hedge. Is there a risk that they will root if I shove them in the ground as they are? I do not want to grow a double row of hazel!

Mine used to overwinter after coppiced and never rooted...

Thanks RT. I shall use them as they are then. I grow my own bamboo bean sticks too but they're a bit whippy at the mo. I'd have to move the pandas out too!

We have hazel stakes for the beans, and although they may sprout shoots they don't seem to root.

Some of ours over wintered too, and some are new this year. I have 31 beans so far! (and counting!)

This is in the garden, RT!! Maybe I can start up a hazel bean stick supply chain to the Vine, once I start coppicing in the wood! Postage may be a bit excessive to Oz though!

The wonderful thing about the Vine

I asked a question, with minutes it was answered, I've acted on the advice (Thank You RT and PnK) and here's the end result - some rustic hazel bean sticks.
Also, a very big Thank You to a local Mod who dug over part of my garden in my absence enabling me to plant the beans!!
