  • how do you make decisions?

Are you a 'go with your gut' kind of person, or do you have a list of pros and cons and carefully weigh up all options before making a decision?
    Toss a coin maybe?

I have a major decision to make and never having been indecisive before, I am finding it impossible to make!

    Toss a coin......... seriously.

When the coin gives you the outcome, your reaction will tell you whether to go with it or not.
Whether you think you can or whether you think you can't, you are probably right.

I'm the kind of person that sits in a restaurant, orders from the menu, then spends the waiting time looking at stuff others have ordered and wishing I'd got that instead!

With serious decisions, I try them out in my mind and try to measure how the result feels - like, thinking - suppose I'd already done this, how does it make me feel? Then, trying another option in the same way.

Not foolproof but it might be a help.

Edit: I've just read this post over and it sounds daft. You may have a better method yourself!

All the best for your decision-making.

Most times I know immediately what choice to make and I do it - because if I hesitate doubts creep in and I'll never make up my mind. It usually works out right!

Gut instinct is pretty much a good one to go with, but sometimes the enormity of a decision means you either bottle it because you are not a risk taker or you take the risk, throwing caution to the wind and hey presto it's a wrong course of action. Pros and cons list if you want to think with your head. Does it involve others? If so, then gut instinct isn't a good one. You have to think of the path it may lead you all down...

There's actually a lot of truth in this. I've done the list thing, I've done the gut thing. I've done the coin thing, too!

If you make pros and cons lists and find that the outcome makes you sad, then go with your gut. I've gone against my gut before and it turned out to be the wrong decision - more than once. So, I'm now a gut girl. Makes sense, given my unhealthy interest in the GI tract!

I always go with my gut, then I have a soak in the bath to clear my head and justify my decision to myself.

If you are making a decision to improve your life then prioritise the things that will improve and the things that won't.

For example I changed where I work last year. Same organisation (almost) but just up the road (literally). So now my pay is the same but I don't have to use any of it to get me to work and I have a bit more time at home.

I talk to Mr P because he's a clever thing, then to my sister and children. Different perspectives can really help.

I think I just think it through - I think - and then make a decision. I can't remember ever having a problem deciding something. Just lucky I guess.
