  • John Innes seed compost

I've potted all my seeds in John Innes seed compost (as recommended on a thread on here).

Although everything seems to be germinated & sprouting up, I don't understand why it's so stoney & bitty (I think I found a new word). How can the seeds grow in something so rough?

Will I need to re-pot my plants in MPC when they are at the 4 leaf stage or will the JISC do?

Also, where the hell is my GYO magazine this month? I've usually got it by now & I'm going mad re-reading my books for something to do

The John Innes range, seed (a new addition), 1, 2. and 3 are all loam based. That is sterilised soil and not peat based. J.I. 2 has twice as much plant food in it as J.I.1 and J.I.3 has three times as much plant food in it as J.I.2

Or that's what I was told many moons ago while still at school. Cheers, Tony.

Seed cutting compost is low in nutrients so as not to overwhelm the seedling, dependent on the plant they will all need to be potted on into MPC at some stage.
