  • toaster oven propagator

My oven died and instead of chucking it or using it as a planter, I was thinking of starting the seeds off in it since it has a nice glass door. And then I thought that all the metal covering the other surfaces might actually make it too hot inside especially if in sunlight - like one of those hotbox torture devices you see in old war movies - and kill/roast the seeds instead of germinating them.

    Good idea, bad idea?

I wouldn't use it as a propagator. In spite of the glass door the seedlings won't get nearly enough light, and as you said you won't be able to control the temperature. If it's outside in the sunshine it will get far too hot.

I suspect you're right. Nifty recycling attempt foiled

What about putting your weeds in it and "roasting" them. Then you could add them to your compost bin that you don't have!

I actually understand you - and thanks, good idea. And I could probably tenderise other hard-to-degrade green waste in there too.

Do you actually want a rusty dead oven on your balcony?

It looks pristine and lovely, but I suppose that will change with the exposure.
