  • New shed/old shed theory

Just finished building new shed and my heart was a bit heavy filling it up again.
    I've a theory:
The bigger the shed, the more guff you tend to fill it with.
    Discuss :-)

Personally I was big and brave and tossed (re-cycled) a load of stuff I'd been keeping 'just in case'.

I may now even be able to call my new home from home a 'potting' shed as I'll be able to stick in a small table.
Hobbies may be an option. OH always complains at the mess I make tying fishing flies.

She may never see me again!

What do you do in yours?

Not a lot Paul (pardon the pun). It's full. I can't even say it's full of rubbish because it is all useful in the garden and can't be stored outside. I think I need another shed.
Welcome back by the way, haven't seen you for a while.

Thanks Florence. I know what you mean re the stuff! I'm actually considering one of those tool chest things for the smaller bits n bobs. I'm determined to try and leave space enough to potter around in.
It's nice to be back. I've been really busy with work and all sorts of things going on that I've not had a lot of time.
Spring on the way has me going again however!
Looking forward to a better growing season than last year. Well, it couldn't be much worse!

Have you not heard the corollary to Parkinson's law, which states that junk expands to fill the space available (+ one room)? your shed won't stay spacious for long. Well known fact. It's not a proper shed if you can get through the door without having to turn sideways and step over something.

Oh most certainly the case in days of yore. But this hoarder has turned over a new space-filled leaf! :-)

I've been thinking about this (sigh). My neighbour is in his shed every day working on some project or other. I really would like the space to go and "potter" in the shed, instead of getting compost and other debris all over the kitchen. I have a "potting" bench outside, (actually it's an old chest of drawers with no drawers) but if the weather's inclement - rain stops play. You really have got me thinking Paul!

I don't have a shed only my greenhouse and a bit of space in the old outside loo for spades and things. So my greenhouse tends to get a bit cramped with seed trays/compost/potting stuff until its warm enough to plant things outside.

I guess I have three sheds now:

                  1. the proper shed, up the lotty
                  2. the greenhouse, currently full of 5l water bottles waiting to be reused
                  3. the garage, housing stacks of homemade wine, empty clean jam jars, empty mushroom trays, yogurt pots, pop bottles

                  It's all tidy though

Oh, and the Under Kitchen Sink: full of little plastic bags, reused

I'm in the middle of building a recycled shed cum greenhouse for the lottie. My neighbour was getting rid, but I hate to see anything usable go to waste.

I already have a shed in the garden which contains my mower and the chickens bins, a coal store/cum tool shed, and a garage which has its back wall full of recycled wardrobes.

If you don't want to fill your house with stuff that should be outside you need storage. I'm a very tidy person, so everything has a place and the garage and sheds are no different.
I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.

The only person that I know that can DO something in their shed is my OH, who has a workshop - complete with bench, shelving and lots and lots of power tools (he who has the most power tools when he dies wins!!!).

My shed, however, is full of HIS lawnmower, OK, and my sun loungers and tools, and pots, and shredder (girls toys!) etc.

But as for DOING anything in my shed - well, I take things out of it, use 'em and put 'em away again....

I clean out and tidy my shed every spring and seem to throw away at least half the stuff in it (why do I save so many plastic trays and yoghurt pots?), and within 3 months it's chocka again. Either the stuff expands or the space shrinks, I can't decide which. Perhaps my shed is a reverse Tardis

The shed is my workshop, carpeted, heated, two benches, chairs etc, you have to be comfortable when working in miniture.

I have a glass (plastic) topped lean to for storage and potting etc.

Ooh carpet! Now we're talking! The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of a tool chest idea for garden electricals and tools.
I could even set-up my home brew in shed. (would get birdy points from OH for that!)

A few optics, sky sports, pool table, lap dancing pole...

Oh wait a minute I'm getting carried away.

I'd never get a pool table in!!
