  • Overcoming Procrastination

Procrastination is not only the thief of time, it is the creator of subtle inner tension. You know you are cheating yourself. There are three secrets to overcoming procrastination.

One, don’t wait till you feel like doing it – the feeling will come when you start doing it.
Two, list all the things you have to do and then prioritise the list.
Three, create a vision of the result and be motivated by the vision of the outcome, not the thought of the process.

Yes, I know it's obvious but as it landed in my inbox this morning at an opportune moment, so I thought I'd share

I have to say point one and three (mostly!) work for me - but two doesn't

So...is coffee number three seen as procastination or preparation?

I find the whole list thing is just another form of procastinating for me....number one and two work for me too.

I've never been one to prevaricate around the shrubbery. I don't think. Well, I might be.......um......I'm not sure really. Can I get back to you on that?

I find that making a list of the things I need to do one of my key ways of avoiding doing anything productive..............

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

mm lists don't work for me.....................If it's a job I like doing it gets done quickly, if it's not then it will stay on the bottom of the list until it really really HAS to be done.
                        Simples!

I find that its easier to start a job rather than think about it, then when you are fed up of that job, start another job, and so on. Its a typical male trait.

Also, I find that when I have started a job and have a drill in my hand, that there is always a list from the other half of the jobs that I haven't finished, that need to be done prior to me finishing the job I have just started.
I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.

I absolutely agree Alison. List making is the best way of putting off doing something, and I do it a LOT!
