OH has just pointed this out to me on the BBC news page BBC News - Fire at Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall River Cottage kitchens. Two things that made me laugh though, firstly the totally irrelevant comment about Hugh being rescued at sea and surely it would have been one hell of a fire if the canteen in Axminster had been damaged!

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Did anybody hear that River cottage burnt down yesterday?

Such a shame HFW seems such a nice guy.

I'm sure HFW is well insured and he'll do the whole Phoenix bit from the ashes. Maybe the next book will be River Cottage BBQ? (only kidding, I do wish everyone at RC well)

In 1996 we had a house fire, at the time we had bottled gass for cooking. The cylinders (a pair with a changeover valve) were outside, but the wall was mainly timber. There was no explosion of the cylinders, but the valves on the top of them obviously blew off. I have a feeling they are designed so it happens that way. The escaping gas would produce a spectacular jet of flame, but I'm not convinced an explosion would occur if the bottles were connected up for use. STORED bottles might explode.

Nice of them to let you know what's going on.

We should have a Grape day at River Cottage. As you are 'in' with them, could you sort it out?

I wish!! One of the Grapes is though and has met HFW himself - and her daughter, or was it granddaughter was going down there for work experience - if I remember rightly! Perhaps we could tag along!!

Yep they seem very confident of a quick return to business as usual, here's wishing them well.

As to gas bottles they all have a blow out plug to prevent an explosion, but if they fall onto their side they turn into torpedos, very nasty.
