Um. Are you in the UK?

If so, we don't usually sow courgettes until the end of March/start of April. As they can't go outside until your last frost free date and they usually get big enough in 3-4 weeks so work backwards from that.

      Hi Shaun & Debs,

      Welcome to the forum.

It's very early to be starting of courgettes, the light levels are too low at the moment.. I'd re-try in a couple of months time. They're so fast growing, that even if you did manage (i.e. have the room, and it lasted) to get these to grow then ~April sown ones will soon catch up.

Edit: d'oh, beaten by the z-miester!

        too quick to fast .....

always read the seed packaging ... you will not beat mother nature she will always win....

you can sow corgette plants indoors march to may outdoors april to may and plant out from the end may onwards..

courgette plants are not frost resistant and will not grow in cold conditions..
also need polination via insects or bees which will not be around until may plus...

if you need any advice please ask on the forum others will always help....
        do a little every day...
keep it organic and taste and see the difference..

And don't grow too many, they crop like billy-o. I got carried away last year and had 5 plants....had sooo many...courgette cake, courgette fritters, courgette chips etc etc...even my friends were saying a polite no thank-you in the end as we gave them yet more courgettes!
Good luck with the growing...try some tomatoes now, and maybe chilli, pepper and even aubergine - enjoy!

Hello Shaun and Debs and welcome to the Vine. I can't add anything to that which the others have said but, you've seen how quickly courgettes can grow, and they will do that again in April when the outside conditions are better. Don't let this put you off, its all good experience and you'll know for next year!

Yes, that's perfectly normal if you sow them in the middle of winter, lol. Not enough light, and far too cold.

I'm teasing ~ welcome to the Vine, and start your courgettes again in April
