  • Skirret - anyone grown it?

    Hiya all

I was reading an article which mentions skirret, its about medieval farming. I thought it looks interesting, and perhaps nicer than salsify (?) and I like to try and grow something old fashioned, (still looking for matlock broadies to no avail) and wondered if anyone has grown it, what its like and how easy is it to grow?

    Thanks xx

Do you mean Martock Broad beans? If so I have some you can have. Not grown skirret though!

Grown Skirret but never eaten it. Easy to grow with lovely white flowers but when I lifted some, the Skirret was really twisted and all I could think was "how on earth do I peel them" Not attacked by any nasty critter, so pest free (for me any way).

Thanks for that guys! I might give it a whirl in my flower bed (front of the allotment where there's some bulbs etc) if the flowers are nice then.

Thanks VC I have PMed you about the MARTOCK beans!
