Planted some broad beans in November. Had a look at them today they are but dead!

I stopped sowing them late in the year because of losses. I now wait till about now and sow them in paper pots in an unheated green house and plant out when about 4" high and there is no root disturbance as the whole lot is planted. They are ready for picking only about a couple of weeks later than over wintered ones and no dissappoitments.johntheengComment

sow'n mine today,ready chitted,into trays of compost,i to get mice bother and when they been chitted,last year i kept them covered with debri netting,the only way in was to chew,but they were just fine,this year i have some large plastic clotch tops,i get 4 seed trays under 1,so hoping this will deter the little monkey's,will only remove them when the green shoots are a few ins high,sigpicAnother nutter ,wife,mother, nan and nanan,love my growing places,seed collection and sharing,also one of these

I planted 4 packs in the allotment Aqua on Nov 5th as my neighbour said it was best time and not 1 sprouted

Ones at home are tall but munched on. Look horribly shabby. One's on the lotment are four five inches high.Comment

I have all my seeds ready to plant but still have a bit of work to do to get my lottie up to scratch for the growing months. I won't even try to get anything growing for at least another month or two, even in my greenhouse.
I think we all need to be able to sit on our hands a wee bit. My string beans failed miserably last year early doors and I put it down simply to trying to get them to grow too early in the year. I understand the excitement of wanting to get the garden going, but patience is paramount here. the time will soon be here when we can sow to our hearts content.Comment

My autumn sown broad beans are non-existent. Not a single sign of life out there. Will start a few indoors soon and then plant some more outdoors when the time is right.Comment
