  • I`m getting old.....

I am getting too old for some garden work, lol.

Just finished digging my last bean ditch ready for next year and boy oh boy, I`m knackered. 15 feet long by 8" deep and 3 foot wide.

At least the hard work is done and i can have a quick rest before layering with news paper and adding my leaves, veg matter and dustbins full of part broken down weeds and pooh.

I might leave this one open for a day or 2 just to be able to add a little more waste.

Oh for the love of beans.......

You might come to the decision that it ain't necessary to dig at all ...

Don't know about being too old for the work, it sounds like I could do with borrowing you!

You say its your "last bean ditch". How many have you dug altogether?

I have 2 trenches, one on a new patch of ground and the other on my main patch. Broad and dwarf french on one trench and czar and trail of tears on the other.

if only we didnt have to dig.....

Two trenches - I understand why you feel tired. I don't dig bean trenches - mainly because I'm lazy!

Have a look at the "no dig" method. Bags of info on here, too!

You haven't come across any siberian/serbian beans capable of this have you Newton? I only ask because as you've probably noticed, I've lost some

first year that I dug a bean trench this year. Couldn't say I noticed an appreciable difference in the beans, in fact, I think they fizzled out sooner than they usually do.
They did crop extrememly heavily, but then, they do that every year.

probably should have read the replies above mine, before posting my ever-so-helpful reply

I got no beans this year, even with the trench, so I'm not doing that anymore either.
