  • Is it too late ?

I have just aquired some onion and garlic bulbs for the garden, is it too late to plant them now directly into the ground or do i need to plant them in pots in the greenhouse and put them out in the spring ?

    The varieties are

    Elephant garlic
    French garlic cristo
    Garlic Marco

    Troy and Radar onions.

    Thanks, Rob.

I'm a fair bit further north but I would plant in plots inside and then plant out later.

Thanks for the advice, it said on the packet they were for autumn planting, and we have had a few frosts already, so wasnt sure if i was wastin g them by going straight in the ground.

I am doing an experiment, half are going in the garden and half in the new allotment to see what does best, no reason really, just interested.

Garlic will be okay I reckon, but I planted some winter onions sets last year that someone gave me cos they were spare. It was quite late, but couldn't have been this late as the snow hadn't arrived yet. Anyway, they did nowt, were completely rubbish, so was a waste of time, but you've nowt to lose really except about 15 minutes of your time.
