  • Car advice needed

Dear grapes, do any of you know anything about cars? Mr P's car has died so we need to replace it in a hurry. I've been given 2 very good offers - a Renault Clio3 Alizé or a Hyundai i20. I prefer the Hyundai as you get more for your money but Mr P is worried coz it's foreign! We keep cars until they give up the ghost. All advice gratefully recieved!

Are you buying new? I think the warranty offered by Hyundai is excellent but les autos francais avez la va va voom.

I would go for the Hyundai

My neighbour has bought a new Hyundai recently and is very pleased with it. Other than that I'm unable to give any valid input.

Friends who have bought Hyundai speak very highly of them-one is on his third one now. The aftersales service he has recieved here has been second to none. Obviously, can`t comment on what the service network is like in France, but well worth checking out-Good luck.

I'd go for the Hyundai every time. Spares might be a bit expensive when needed, but you will probably need them less often! They have a great reputation for reliability, unlike Renault.....
Of course that is UK-based. It might be different across there where the Renault is 'at home'.

My clio was a gutless expensive money pit. Wouldn't touch one with a barge pole

I had a Hyundai, pony, years ago when they first started importing them. It was a cracking little car.
I also had Kia picanto (same company) when they came out and after 3 years passed it on to my son and his wife. It too was a good car, well build and not an ounce of trouble.
I now drive a 7 year old honda jazz and that is the best car i have ever owned.
                Hope this helps.

another vote for the Honda Jazz, 2004 must have been a good year, have had it 3 years and it's a cracker of a car. Always in the "top 10 most reliable car" tables. And very flexible inside: I just got a 6ft IKEA dvd tower in mine.

Thanks for all the advice. Sadly, Mr P put his french foot down and insisted on a french car so it's the Renault Clio Alizé III. I too hope that it's better when at "home"!!!

We have a Renault Scenic that the f-i-l uses to ferry the kids around in when he's looking after them. It's done +100k miles and still ticks along. My Honda has done slightly more mileage, and whilst is in better nick all round, it's a more expensive car. Renault has had a few minor niggles, but pretty good for a car that's done over a 100k.
