    Gardening terms?

    Dont know if this is a good idea but what about a reference of gardening terms?
    Nothing complex just a basic description of what it is!

    eg pinching out: The removal of new growth from a plant to encourage a more bushy, fuller plant. The word 'Pinching' came from the fact that you use your thumb and fore finger to pinch the new growth off the plant instead of a tool.

    What you think grapes?

    I know you can google them but it would be nice to have all the information in one place

      A glossary:-
      Crown - top of a vegetable, not Royal headgear!
      Taproot - main root, not a new waterworks company
      Companion planting - flowers grown alongside fruit/veg, not best friend planting
      Raised bed - a board/plank box construction to keep you off the soil and allow addition of soil improvers or quality top soil, not an elevated area for sleeping
      Crop rotation - yearly movement of different crop groupings into set beds, not turning 360 degrees of a vegetable
      Chitting - laying your seed potatoes weeks prior to planting so that they develop chits/shoots, not a young girl
      Cloche - a protective covering made of plastic, fleece, glass or bamboo, not a fancy hat
      Perennial - lasting several years
      Biennial - lasting two years, reoccurring every two years
      Annual - lasting a year only
      Harden off - the process of getting a greenhouse seedling to acclimatise to eventual planting out, not teaching a plant to be a prize fighter

          clamp - a straw and mud upside-down bowl-shaped shaped structure for keeping your root veg unfrozen and edible over winter.

                  S'ok CS - Ollie only makes a guest appearance occasionally! Some good stuff in there though, quite a bit contributed by grapes I think!
