    Well, that's the eternal question....

I have one stash which is 'stuff to sow now' ie over winter.

Then I'll have the rest, which is to sow in the spring...I'll dip into this before spring of course for the early sowing - and relook at it every 2 weeks for succession sowing - but once the toms, peppers etc are sown then they are done and dusted and not looked at again.

All the toms/peppers/F beans/cucurbits are all kept together - in very big bags. Once these are sown for the year, they get taken out and the rest ends up being succession sown. They usually end up in the pea box as these can be sown several times a year.

And each year I change my methods!

I do mine month by month for sowing dates- then they all get 'mixed up' as the year progresses....

      definition of 'mixed up'.......

...left in the trug for the next sowing session; in the bucket; shoved into one of several fleece pockets ( some going through the washing machine like that!); left on the passenger seat ; by the side of the bed with a book on planting;"hidden by me on purpose" along with a trowel and kneeling mat (says HE)...

      ...hmm- ring any bells peeps???

I'm glad I'm not the only one whose floor ends up looking like a shop! I order them by sowing month - whole months when it's out of season but sub divided into early and late for March and April etc . I try then to move seed packets back in the box if I intend to resow but yes they end up in allsorts of places. What I haven't got is a good box which is the right size for putting them upright and the right width for a seed packet. Currently using an old tissue box. Good reusing but not very strong and no lid.

I have 2 boxes and sort by sowing time - a Feb to April box, and a May to whenever box. Then at the beginning of Feb I start a "Now" box, go through all the packets in the Feb - April box and transfer those that need sowing in Feb to the "Now" box. I do that at the start of each month, returning seeds for successional planting to one of the 2 main boxes, and empty packets to a large envelope.

          In my dreams.....!

In practice I have a big tin that I riffle through every month or so - this explains why I have so many packets of leek and carrot seeds and no fennel or broad beans - again!
