  • Oh feeling very sea sick after watching this .....

This was on OHs forum and you really, REALLY couldn't pay me enough to do this sort of job

Not for the feint hearted me thinks

Very skilled pilot but I guess it must help if you're slightly crazy to start with

Ye Gods. Nope. That's a job I don't want either.
Mind you my last thought was that they must coat the landing pad with superglue to get the bloomin' thing to stay there

Every squaddie I've ever met who travelled in helicopters hated them with a vengeance. Dire tales of lost friends were told. If you look at the YouTube video of the Chinook that fell off a ship, you can see how seas and helicopters are not a popular mix for the Special Forces.
The local Mountain Rescue team were not that keen either, after one SAR paraffin budgie toppled over while disembarking on a hillside...happily no-one died, but there was a big laundry bill.

Two good clips thanks, still giggling about the second one.

As a armoured recce troop sargeant in the 70s I had my first hele ride in a Gazelle in Germany. It landed in a field along side our troop and I was waved over by the observer. As I climbed aboard he turned and asked me "this your first time in a chopper?" Yes was the wrong answer, clean shredies required all round.

I knew I done wrong the minute I opened my gob. It was they way the pilot and ob's looked at each other and took up an extra notch in the harness straps.
