  • Little Reetlet sob heartbroken at school .....

.... when I left her this morning.

She clung to my leg like a limpet and cried her heart out and she was the only one. I felt awful, although I had a suspicion she would be like this as she has been by far the most 'home bird' like of my 3.

There are only 8 receptioners including her and she knows them all because they were all at preschool together. Middle Reetlet is at the same school but 2 classrooms along. There are only 3 classrooms in the whole school plus the dinner hall which doubles as 4th part-time classroom.

I know she'll have been fine within minutes of me leaving but it didn't help at the time and so I'm hoping tomorrow will be easier

Bean starts pre-school in a couple of months, and I'm hoping he'll be fine, but you never know.

Like you say, chances are high that minutes later she'll have been having a whale of a time! Fingers crossed for tomorrow...

According to my Mum, my Sister and I were both the opposite to reetlet - we ran off to be with our friends without so much as a peck on the cheek or a backward glance.

      She'll be fine!

She'll be fine. The tears. Will be forgotten and she'll be having a ball

Yes, my two were different as well. The younger boy, hung on to me for grim death and the older girl, didn't even turn around to say goodbye. She was just the same when I took her to Uni. After a 300 mile trip and miles of walking to get all of her stuff into her room at halls, I started the car, looked at the doorway for a final goodbye and a wave, but she had already turned to go in.

Let's see how the next generation turn out - she has a girl and has just produced a younger boy.

When we went for a taster session at the school nursery, my eldest cried when I took him home.....(honestly I'm not that bad!)

If it makes you feel any better my littlun started today and screamed the place down and had to be carried in by the teaching assistant. How bad did I feel!!!!!

I could hear him screaming all the way to the carpark. They did ring me later to say he had calmed down adn was playing. They have told him he will get a reward if he lines up nicely tomorrow - Total contrast to my eldest. When he started he skipped in and had to be called back for a kiss!

Most do this at some stage in the first few weeks. My best one was off someone who shall remain nameless and said when asked "have you had a nice day at school?" "yes, i've done x, yand z (can't remember the exact)...but I don't think I'll go again!". Then came my tears to deal with...
It does get better - ask if they can take a favourite cuddly toy in and when teddy comes home - ask him/her if he/she had a good day with "LittleReet". Hold Teddy to your ear because he's whispering secrets, obviously, then go "Wow, she did that?" Hold Teddy to ear again and the conversation goes on of your choosing with positive comments obviously. It then becames a bit of a game/novelty and both have to go back next day to continue this adventure.

I do feel for you my eldest was just the same and like Janeyo I had to manually hand her over at the classroom door to her class teacher. I did get better eventually.

Well she's come home chattering about playing in the big playground with the big kids, eating her pack-up in the dining hall and how the pink star she is proudly wearing on her pinafore is because, today, she was the teachers helper.

Mind you she has told me that she will probably cry tomorrow if the teacher hasn't brought Rollo with her! Rollo, is a puppet, apparently.

Thanks, as always, for your support and shared experiences.

Don't worry Janeyo, they like to play with your mind!
Grand-daughter is positively frothing with excitement at the thought of school next week. Mr Teez and I had the pleasure of her company today - along with grandson - and we discussed the fun she was going to have in some detail. I think she is looking forward to having some new people to boss about!

If she hadn't cried Reet, you probably would have anyway! When my daughter's youngest started school, they both cried. Hope she is a bit better tomorrow. You've been there before, so you know how to cope, but it doesn't make it any easier does it?

What did you do with the whole day to yourself?

It is horrible, my other half works as a nursery-nurse, apparently the best thing to do is to leave, totally ignore the tears...I must admit i would find that very hard, whenever either of my girls cry i give them much too much sympathy (their mother is more strict! lol).
Luckily our eldest wasnt too bad starting playschool/school, now she tells mummy to go, and stop showing her up...five going on 15!!
Hope it all works out soon!
