    i have been training my greengage for 2 years and now its fruiting well ,i went out to look it over and its covered in a black substance covering some leaves and branches,is this sooty mould? and for the first time it is loaded with nearly ready fruit...sods law..first time getting a great crop,looks like i will lose the lot,is there anything to be done to remedy the situation?

    I had sooty mould covering one (out of a dozen) chillies in the gh.

    I picked off the affected leaves, and vowed to be more on top of the aphids

      Are you near a distillery ? if so you may be getting some of "the angels share"

        the nearest distillery is about 25mls as far as i know,would brushing it off with mild soapy water help as it looks awful(and i do want to taste that fruit)..
