  • starting again

we have just got a new allotment ,,it is not even a 5 minute walk so it is with a heavy heart we are giving up our 2 plots and start again ,,we can only get to them by car so not ideal when you have 2 of them and to be honest the distance is proving to be a bit of a problem ,,when hubby is at work i cant get to it so we only get to spend a couple of days a fortnight down there so as much as i hate to say good bye we are looking forward to our new adventure and to be truthful we will probably get more out of the one plot than we ever did the 2 being so close to home

our new plot was derelict land before hubby started a campaign to get it turned into allotments nearly 3 years later it is getting there so we have a blank canvas and a lot of weeds it has 8 plots and 4 community raised beds ,,a wildlife area and an orchard

just need to have a sort out and see what i can sow now ,,any ideas will be great

Good luck with the new plot - I'm sure you will find it much better having an allotment closer to home. As for sowing now, salad crops (lettuce, radish, etc), peas, maybe some french beans for a late crop.

Must have been a tough decision to make but I know that having my plot about a 10 minute walk away means I can pop over for a hour to do something several times a week, further away would mean this is difficult. Still I'm sure you've learnt loads from your last plot so can put it all into practice in your new one. I've recently sown fennel and I would have thought you could get winter cabbage/ kale plants either from the garden centre or plug plants online. Good luck!

Just today have sown pea Kelverton Wonder for a late crop. Winter cabbage will be sown in the next 2 weeks.

Suttons do a range called speedy veg that might be worth a look.

Good luck with your new plot.
