  • Rhubarb in hot climate

I have planted a couple of Rhubarb crowns
The 1st one is growing, but a bit spindly
This one we have covered with a bit of drainpipe to help protect it from hot sun
The second doesnt seem to be growing at all
Any tips on how I can grow this lovely fruit in hot climate
PS I live in Greece & is one fruit we miss from home in UK

    Thanks Helen

First of all, you need to find a shady spot (if possible). Rhubarb likes rich soil, fair amount of moisture and not too much sun or high temperatures. I think you may struggle, but good luck. Where do you do your growing (garden, pots, open ground, or what)?

I plant my 'delicate' plants under the fig and olive trees as they shade them from the noon sun and helps keep the soil moister. I'm guessing my climate is the same as yours. Another 'trick' is to dug a trench around what you want to water and flood it frequently as the water goes deeper than watering the surface...

      Hope this helps...
