  • Blowaway?! And water retaining crystals

    Hello all,

The forum is excellent and I am really enjoying reading through so many threads about all sorts of interesting things!
First of all, what is a blowaway? Have seen it referred to several times. I think it's probably one of the little mini plastic greenhouses... but just want to check. (And I'm partly thinking that because when I got home on Thursday after a VERY windy day my little mini greenhouse had blown over and everything was a mess! Didn't lose much except a tray of salad that was just sprouting. Had 5 cabbage and 5 brussel sprout seedlings which all got mixed up!)
Secondly I bought some water retaining crystals to put into the pots I am planting into in the garden. But then I thought... are they safe to use with vegetables or just flowers?
I hope my questions aren't too silly and thanks to anyone who replies!

You are correct with the Blowaways, not sure about the water crystals, i would think they were ok

They will be fine to use on your veg. But I don't put anything "chemical" on mine, except in exceptional circumstances - such as a plague of locusts! Whilst I don't consider myself "organic" we've managed to get away without using insecticides etc. for the last 4 or 5 years - I'd spray the veg patch at the drop of a hat, though, if there was a risk of losing a crop.
