  • advice on planting a fruit tree

Hi, I got a blackberry fruit tree from poundland, I put it in a pot and it has grew about 3feet tall im about to put it in the ground. is normal compost ok or should I use manure as I was advised by a neighbour today? also what fertiliser should i use for it, I have some growmore, and some bush, shrub and tree feed.

    blackberry? or blackcurrant?
neither are trees really, they're bushes, a blackberry one will go nuts and take over your garden and colonise any bit of space, so train it somewhere, or keep it reined in
a blackcurrant will grow fairly large but won't colonise your garden, it'll turn into a giant bush if you look after it right
you can dig a hole and put compost in the bottom if you like, or just dig the hole and stick a bit of general purpose fertiliser, and mix into the earth, then top dress with manure.

If it's already grown to 3 ft tall it's a blackberry. As Taff says, it's a scrambling plant, not a tree

They grow on wasteland, so that tells you something about their needs: next to none. Just stick it in a hole and let it get on with it

It will indeed go mad: you might want to do erect kind of support for it: http://www.gardenaction.co.uk/fruit_...erry_page2.asp
