  • strawberry plant, leaves curled up and break like dry paper

they have been watered regulary. Could this perhaps be sun scorch?

If it's the outer leaves then I'd say that's it's just the normal die-back.

tbh....It's unlikely to be sun scorch unless you watered then at the height of a very sunny day ( we had 30C in direct sun over the past couple of days)

It doesn't look like "normal" dieback, so there are several possibilities of common things that upset strawberries:

              1.
              Planted too deep.

              2.
              Too much water.

              3.
              Nutrient deficiency.

              4.
              Diseased.

              5.
Not properly hardened-off before getting frosted.
              .

Will have to clean my specs but it does not look like normal die back with that the leaves go dark brown and can be crumbled to dust in yoour hand.

Firstly - it's a strawberry. Get it outside!

I've tried growing seedling fruit trees indoors to extend their growing season. It often fails due to pests or disease attack because the wintr cold can't kill the pest/diseases and the potential predators are not very numerous even outdoors, let along having predators such as earwigs crawling all over your house.

I must admit that I've not seen red spider mite be as destructive as they are on those strawberries.
However, I don't use sprays on anything and I am told that red spider mite are often a problem when a previously sprayed plant goes into an unsprayed environment. The natural predators usually restore the balance after a while, but the pests are more numerous and multiply so much faster in the early stages.
