  • turning plants from the light

Recalling my O level biology and how plants 'move' to the light, a few questions spring to mind please.

    1. Do plants move or grow towards the light?

    2. Plants photosynthesize from the top of the leaf as i understand, so turning the leaves 'away' from the light checks or encourages growth?

3 How often should seedlings and plants growing towards the light be turned?

4 Is turning to the benefit or detriment of the plant?

    many thanks

To get around my seedling growing leggy and towards the light while they're on the window sill I make a backdrop using kitchen foil, it seems to do the trick.

Yes they do grow towards the light. I turn my indoor plants daily if I remember.

at least i know i am doing no harm by turning them.
i do like the idea of using reflectors to balance the light and shade of indoor plants as well.
thanks for the feedback another useful tip for my notebook.

Bren - now why didn't I think of that??? A nice simple, straightforward idea to counter my tendency to forget to turn leggy seedlings/plants (thinking mostly chillis here....)

              Cheers,

I must have read it on the vine at sometime because when I first joined I was a total newbie at growing anything.
