    Starting from scratch with seedlings

    I have recently found an allotment site near where I live...hooray! I do not have room at home or at the allotment (at the moment) for a proper greenhouse for my seedlings...so was thinking of getting a couple of those smaller Gardman houses that are basically smaller, with wooden frames and polycarbonate double layer plastic stuff.
    Will these be suitable for growing my seedlings on and protect them sufficiently from frosts...given that we had hard frosts through to April last year...or am I kidding myself and need to magic a greenhouse from somewhere?

    Well, I start mine off in the house until the weather warms up . You could p'haps get some fleece to put over them at night.

      I start everything off on the windowsill and when I think the time is right harden em off in the coldframes or one of the greenhouses. Those little polly seem to suffer from too much weather damage here and often suffer extreme temp changes and condensation. Both me next door neighbours have give up using them.

        flimsy plastic 'blowaways' won't give you frost-free protection: my glass greenhouse has been down to -2c this week
        I've mostly got hardy seedlings in it, but also tender pelargoniums and a banana which I think is a gonner

          I can echo the sentiment about the weather damage, I haven't decided yet whether to replace the three that blew away (hence "blowaways")

            I have one of those plastic guardsman type and so far it has been great. I have lined it with bubble wrap and it is in the corner between 2 walls for protection, so far so good. But I stat seeds off in the house and then move them out
