  • Wasps

    Hi,

I have a three bay compost heap. This summer wasps took up residence in the middle bay. How and when should I arrange for them to be removed?

    Maria.

Wasps die over winter (all bar the queen). No need for you to do anything

      Wasps - Queen Lives On

      Hi Two Sheds,

Thanks for your reply. There does seem to have been less wasps in flight so the idea that they die over winter makes sense. You mention that the Queen lives on. Will she still be in the compost? And would it be okay to now turn the compost?

      Maria.

Watch it for a bit and see how many wasps are coming and going. It might be better to wait until you've had a really cold spell before you start turning the heap. Either that or get ready to run!! BTW, whereabouts are you. Could you add your location to your profile please - it will then show up on your posts and helps no end when giving advice.

          Hi rustylady,

Thanks for the advice. No wasps spotted for a week or so now, so the cold spell must have done the trick.

Thanks also for the prompt to edit my profile. I'm new to the list so am still working out what's best practice. Profile duly updated.

          Thanks again.

          Maria.
