  • what to do with chick poo ?

i have a constant supply of fresh chicken poo ( my own 3 girls ) is it best to put it straight into the compost bin for use next spring ? have read a few conflicting views so not sure how best to use this waste : /

I'd put it on the compost. It will certainly help accelerate the rotting process.

It certainly needs composting before it's added to the garden.

I created a whole raised bed using only fresh chicken and duck manure, I planted my courgettes into beds after waiting 3 months and have had fantastic results.

I compost mine - it's mixed with chopped hemp flooring of the run so I let the lot compost down. Lovely stuff!

I sometimes add it to the compost heap but if it's strawy I add it straight to the soil as a mulch. Doesn't seem to scorch the plants and they seem to thrive on it (particularily brassicas!)

Straw and chicken poop all goes into the compost bins, or straight into new raised beds mixed with compost, lovely stuff!

I place the poop into my compost bin, purely I have quite a bit of wood shavings in it, but was told that it can leak armonia into the soil??? as you can find with horse manure?

                Is that part true?

anyway, I used some this year and didnt have a problem, although I havent ever left it the suggested 2 years before use as I dont have the space to keep it for long and I have 4 bins!
