Anyone know what this plant is? It sprung up out of nowhere and so initially I thought it was a weed, but then I noticed that the flowers looked quite nice so I left it.

I've now noticed that the flower 'pods' have started drying and there is a large berry inside, and so I assumed it was some kind of physalis, but can't find a match on the intertubes. Anyone have any ideas?

Nicandra Physalodies - the Shoo fly plant got its name because it was thought that crushing the seeds in milk and putting them in the greenhouse would kill flies ... does it work ... NO, but the seeds are poisonous to us so wash your hands when handling this plant.
I have lots as I think they are lovely.

The seeds are apparently in packs of wild-bird seed, that's how it appears from nowhere

We put a bird feeder in the garden at the beginning of the year, so I guess that's where it came from.

Nice looking plant though. Shame the fruit isn't edible.
