Last year I managed to grow a banana plant from seed (musa sikkimensis or something similar), it was supposed to have been a hardy variety and was planted outside in the "perfect spot" but after the winter we had it died a very quick and messy death even with straw and bubble wrap to keep out the cold.
To my amazement I noticed this morning that it has grown back and is about eight inches high, why/how it has reappeared I have no idea but there it is growing quite happily.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how I should insulate it this time round to get it through the winter without turning to "mush" again (it's in the ground not a pot). Seeing as it somehow reincarnated itself I want to give it the best chance of still being there next spring!
